Much of the inspiration for our cider comes out of our time spent in the Apple Orchards of Michigan. There’s so much natural beauty and taste in these orchards, we simply could not ignore it. With the “craft alcohol” industry rising in Michigan, we’ve been inspired to create a hard cider experience that transcends anything you’ve had before. Every cider we create is crafted with one goal: to pleasantly surprise you with it’s genuine but unique flavor. We’re always coming up with new ingredients and incredible tastes – all born of the earth and all combined artfully. Come see why you’ve never had hard cider like ours before.
Featuring custom craftsmanship of reclaimed wood from a 100+ year old barn, our cidery has a unique and beautiful ambiance in which we think you’ll feel right at home. Fresh and hard ciders made from apples picked in the Ridge that surrounds us are just the start. We also work tirelessly to offer a farm-to-table dining experience that is locally sourced and put together by local experts. We don’t just believe in cider here at “The Ridge”. We believe in the beauty of natural, the custom of craft, and inspiration to share it with the world.
We are propelling change in an old industry. Growing opportunity internationally. Cultivating ground that was before us & now ground ahead of us.
Passionately pollenating the people we serve.
One glass at a time.
How We Got Started
Matt Delong grew up in and around the apple orchards of Fremont MI. He’s always enjoyed a true Michigan experience year after year making cider and the desserts his mother would make from the apples the orchards provided. As a younger man, he learned what could happen with cider if left to ferment and was quickly intrigued with the art of making hard cider or wine. Years later he continued with this passion, refining the makings of cider to what he and others would most enjoy, using natural and fresh ingredients. Matt formed Ridge Cider Co. and began producing bulk cider for other breweries and wineries for their use, with the intentions of opening a hard cidery available to the public. It was during that time Matt met and formed a friendship with Bruce Rasch: a 5th generation apple farmer and one of the largest apple growers in Michigan, known as “Apple Quest.” Sending most of his apples to fresh market, Bruce wanted to be involved in something that could extend his passion for the orchards and advance the industry in Michigan. Ridge Cider Co. and AppleQuest joined forces February 2014 – culminating into the hard ciders we produce today.
We are interpreters of the trees, using what nature provides to make a clean crisp and refreshing beverage. We are truly a branch to bottle, farm to glass hard cidery.
About The Ridge
We produce high-quality hard apple cider here in Michigan, using apples that we grow right here on the “ridge.” Most of our orchards can be found west of Sparta between 10 mile and 14 mile.
The area is so named for its extensive agricultural activity, it is considered to be a “fruit agricultural mecca” as its unique features make it one of the prime fruit-growing regions in the world. The area’s deposits of fertile clay loam soils with excellent moisture holding qualities, elevation of greater than 800 feet, and its proximity to Lake Michigan; creates a unique climate and provides great soil and terrain for the growing of premium apples.
In 2006 the area accounted for 65% of all Michigan apple production. The Ridge is approximately 8 miles wide and 20 miles long covering 158 square miles. It extends from Walker in the south; to Grant in the North, and is primarily centered on Sparta;
